THE TREBLES LIST

The addition of the treble list is probably the biggest change to the standard fixed odds coupon and is done so to improve the type of football bets offered. The trebles list is certainly better than the very difficult "two or three from each section" bet of old.

Lists are currently restricted to the premiership, First Division and Scottish Premiership but may change in future.

The first advantage of the treble being that you can include home games. Ground advantage is big in football and the clever punter can take stock of this by picking three straight games to put in a treble. This bet would be made up of three home teams that you feel confident will win.

Obviously, the odds given on these types of bet are not too good which is why clever punters try a different approach. Rather than looking for teams you feel confident will win, decide on a price you want to be rewarded with for a successful treble. If you feel, for example 2/1 to 5/2 is a suitable price range, look for two teams that, odds combined, puts you close to this. You can then select what you consider to be a "Certainty" for the third part of the treble.

TREBLES: GO FOR FOUR!

Whilst odds of 5/2 is considered to be good value by some punters (often with a long-term view in mind) you may want to "Spread your wings a little" with another idea for a trebles list.

Instead of laying out a stake on one treble, why not split it across four or more? The idea of four trebles comes from only having to make four selections. With four sides selected, a bet can be for four trebles. This way, if one of the selections lets you down, you can still get a return from the other three. If all four win, a good profit can be expected.

LONG LIST PERMUTATIONS

Still the main objective of almost every fixed odds coupon is the long list. Every major game in Football is listed with a minimum of five selections required if a home match is included.

Why not try Out an Idea or two from these selections:

• To go for a permutation, consider selecting seven homes and covering every combination of five and six. Add in cover for all seven and that's 29 bets to pay for.
• Go for five matches! Choose three for away wins and two to end all square. Cover every treble and the cost is ten bets.
• Or you can put four away selections in one column and four homes in the next. Identify the aways as column A and the homes as Column B. Then write the bet out as follows. "Cover any two from A with any 3 from B = 6x4=24 bets. With this bet, only two of the aways and three of the homes need win for a five-timer to be landed!
• One 24 bet cover idea is to divide eight selections into four pairs. Write next to the bet "Perm any 3 Pairs, then Perm 5 from 6 = 4x6 bets = 24 bets. This way you cover eight home teams you feel have a strong chance of winning.
• Why not try taking three games and covering for two results in each to try and land a treble? This bet can be done on Trebles and Long Lists. If you think three games will either be drawn or away wins, put an X and a 2 next to the three matches ( X signifies a draw and 2 an away win) Then, next to the predictions, write "Three 2-way forecasts = 8 bets. Stake each bet as you see fit.
• Lastly, a bit more complicated but here we go. Select four home teams in Column A of either the Long or Trebles lists. In column B take three other matches to be either draws or away wins. Write next to this "Perm any 3 from column A with any 2-way forecasts =4x3x4=48bets. You will be looking to land five timers. Not a cheap bet but big profits if it goes your way.
